FTC sends payments to eligible Ring customers
The FTC is sending Zelle payments to eligible people who had an account with Ring, a home security camera company.
The FTC sued Ring for failing to protect customer accounts. The FTC says that Ring’s privacy failures let employees have too much access to customer videos and made accounts vulnerable to online attacks. In some cases, hackers took control of customer accounts, cameras, and videos.
The settlement required Ring to pay money, delete videos it shouldn’t possess, and establish a strong privacy and security program. The FTC is using that money to provide refunds to eligible Ring customers.
The FTC first sent payments in April 2024, then a second round of payments in August 2025, which resulted in more than $5.4 million in refunds. Now, the FTC is sending Zelle payments to people who didn’t cash their check or accept their PayPal payment.
If you get a Zelle payment, the payment will be deposited directly into your bank account with a note about the settlement. The FTC never asks you to pay money to get a refund.
